With many schools closing for holiday break Dec. 17, an ice hockey contest in Chestnut Hill drew a lot of student supporters Friday afternoon. A sizeable home crowd for Springside Chestnut Hill Academy strolled over to the Wissahickon Skating Club, and fans also turned out for visiting Germantown Academy.

December 7, the girls of Germantown Friends School and Springside Chestnut Hill Academy met on the basketball court for the second time in less than a week. With many reserve players on the floor for both teams as the final frame wore on, the gap between the teams grew by just two points for the 51-33 final.

As in years past, Mount St. Joseph Academy launched its competitive swimming season last December 10 with a trip to North Penn High School. Winning almost all of the individual events and all three relays, the North Penn Maidens outscored the visitors from the Mount, 100-78.

In its last basketball skirmish before these encounters become official, Mount St. Joseph Academy hosted Pope John Paul II High School for a scrimmage late on Saturday afternoon. The sum of the scores from the four periods revealed a 47-21 advantage for the Mount Magic over the visiting Panthers.

On December 1 the Quakers launched their 2021-22 season playing the Abington Friends Kangaroos, and PC prevailed, 55-22. It was the team's first appearance in Penn Charter's new Graham Athletics and Wellness Center and the 100th win with the Quakers for head coach Joe Maguire, now in his seventh season with the squad.
