Ann Page Platt Allen died peacefully on Saturday, June 16 at The Retreat Gardens, Rio Rancho NM.
Her heart and spirit were ever-present, even as her memory diminished.
Ann Page was born to Page Randolph Platt and Henry Norris Platt II in Chestnut Hill, Pennsylvania, November 22, 1924. “Pagie” graduated from St Timothy’s School in Stevenson, Maryland, June 1942. She was a strong athlete and was Varsity Basketball captain of the “Brownies” team.
Her love of arts and humanities led her to Sarah Lawrence, where she received an Associate of Arts degree in Art History in 1945.
A devoted skier, Page took a train to ski Aspen Mountain when it was still under development following WWII. There she met her soon-to-be betrothed, Thomas Allen. Tom and Page married on July 1, 1950.
The couple had a special talent for gathering friends over the years, one that they passed on to their children. Their marriage of 59 years included five children and many homes: several in the Fox Valley west of Chicago, one in Midland TX and one in New Canaan CT. In 1990, they returned to their beloved Rocky Mountains to settle in Santa Fe. There they lived together until Tom’s death in 2009.
During this time, they enjoyed playing tennis, hiking the Sangres, and skiing at the Santa Fe Ski Basin. Together, Page and Tom pioneered their spiritual life. After a lifetime in the Episcopal Church, they became a founding members of Santa Fe’s Holy Trinity Orthodox Church in Santa Fe.
She is survived by her eldest brother (“Harry”, Henry Norris Platt III), four of her children: Page Randolph Allen of Santa Fe, Samuel Wilder Allen of Boulder, Co., Abigail Brewster Allen of Santa Fe and Polly Allen Robbins of Portland, Or., and five grandchildren: Sophie Page Allen, Emily Dodge Allen, Henry Wilder Allen, Madison Page Robbins, James Davis Robbins, her step-granddaughter, Maya Jehan Owings and step great grandson, Otis Owings Ranahan. She is preceded in death by her parents, younger brother (“Randy”, J. Randolph Platt), husband and eldest son (James Allen).
Funeral Service will be held at Holy Trinity Orthodox Church, 231 E Cordova Rd, Santa Fe, NM, Thursday, June 21 at 11am. Burial Service will be at West Batavia Cemetery, Batavia, Illinois.
