Tuesday Night at the Movies: Tracy and Young

Posted

Spencer Tracy and Loretta Young star in Frank Borzage's 1933 melodrama "Man's Castle" at 7:30 pm, Tuesday, Oct. 3, at Woodmere Art Museum, 9201  Germantown Ave.  Set in a Depression-era shantytown on the banks of the East River, the film depicts, in critic Andrew Sarris's words, "the wondrous inner life of lovers in the midst of adversity." In just his fourth film, Tracy plays the loveable ne'er-do-well that made him such a huge star, and Young is his match.  Regulars at Tuesday Night at the Movies will recall last year's "History is Made at Night," also directed by Borzage, which achieved a similar blend of romance, comedy and tragedy.  Donations are suggested.
