Mt. Airy Day, the street festival that started in the 1970s, is scheduled to return for another year on Saturday, May 11. The day full of shopping, music, food and fun will kick off at noon and last until 5 p.m. on Germantown Avenue between Mt. Pleasant Avenue and Gorgas Lane. The rain date is Saturday, May 18. The festival started as a way to foster relationships between neighbors east and west of Germantown Avenue. At Mt. Airy Day in 1983 (above), youngsters ride The Tempest amusement park attraction, which had been set up on Germantown Avenue.
