Actress Da’Vine Joy Randolph, who grew up in Germantown and Mt. Airy, may just complete a sweep of supporting actress honors on Sunday when the 96th Oscar Awards airs at 7 p.m., Sunday, March 10, on ABC. The Temple University graduate is nominated for “The Holdovers.” In the film, Randolph plays a no-nonsense cafeteria manager who is mourning her son, and the actress has won a slew of honors this awards season. This year, Randolph is one of several nominees with a Philadelphia area connection, and one of two that just may sweep. Jennifer Lame, a 2000 graduate of Episcopal Academy (then in Lower Merion, now in Newtown Square) is nominated in the Best Editing category for her work in “Oppenheimer.” Lame already has racked up a series of awards for her work on the film about the scientist who led the Manhattan Project. Bradley Cooper, nominated in multiple categories for “Maestro,” a movie about conductor Leonard Bernstein, grew up in Abington Township and graduated from Germantown Academy. Actor Colman Domingo, who is nominated for his role as West Chester-born civil rights activist Bayard Rustin, is from Overbrook and is also a Temple grad. His movie “Rustin” was produced by Higher Ground Productions, a company founded by Barack and Michelle Obama. And, “Holdovers” Best Actor nominee Paul Giamatti also has a Temple connection. His brother Marcus is an associate professor at the school.
