Morris Arboretum

  Community Weekend

The Morris Arboretum & Gardens offers a special discounted community weekend to celebrate its 90th anniversary as a public garden. From Friday, August 4, to Sunday, August 6, admission to the Morris is just $9 (still free for Morris members, PennCard holders, and children under 3). On Friday August 4, there will be activities for the whole family, and the first 500 visitors each day will get a free cool treat. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday, Aug. 4; and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 5, and Sunday, Aug. 6.  Morris Arboretum is at 100 E. Northwestern Ave.

   Yoga in the Treetops

Join experienced yoga instructor Maura Manzo for a unique yoga practice in the Out on a Limb exhibit, giving participants a bird's eye view of the forest from 50 feet up while surrounding you in the beauty and wonder of the Morris's towering trees, 8 to 9 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 5. Women & Self-Care

“A Women Elevating Women” fun, fitness and self-care outdoor event will include a paint & sip presentation, and info on yoga & journaling, Zumba and skin care. 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Aug. 5. Next Level Personal Training, 717 Bethlehem Pike, Erdenheim.

 

Laurel Hill Tours

 A tour for Tiny Taphs

A taphophile is “a person who is interested in cemeteries, funerals, and gravestones”. This tour is designed to pique the curiosity of younger children and introduce them to not only Laurel Hill East, but common themes and symbolism that can be found in most 19th-century cemeteries! 10 to 11 a.m. , Sunday Aug. 6. $1.90 to $17, depending on age and membership. West Point Graduates

This tour will explore some of the 45+ West Pointers through history, now buried at Laurel Hill East. You will meet Major General George Gordon Meade, the victor of Gettysburg; Brigadier General Jacob Zeilin, the first general in the history of the Marine Corps; and 2nd Lieutenant Benjamin Hodgson, killed during the Battle of Little Big Horn. 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. , Saturday, Aug 05, 2023. $1.90 to $17, depending on age and membership.  Stroll the Street

Every Thursday evening during the summer, visitors can walk, shop, and dine their way down Main Street in Manayunk at the summer series, Stroll the Street. Enjoy local vendors, live music, fun activities, and monthly themed nights with August’s Pet Month. Select Manayunk restaurants feature happy hour specials, while retail shops offer discounts and other promotions. New to this year is the MNYK Artbox which will host art demos, photo opportunities, and unique musical performances. 5 p.m., Thursdays, Aug. 3 to 31. Afternoon Plant Cutting Swaps

 The third annual Jabali Jungle event in Germantown will celebrate plant and flower shops, and urban farms owned by people of color. The plant shop pop-up will be noon to 4 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 12, Wyck Historic House, Garden and Farm, 6026 Germantown Ave.  Free.
