Tap into the minds and math of playoff baseball with a team of local talent, including Sam Fuld, Phillies general manager and a former major league outfielder, to learn about the rise of analytics in Major League Baseball.

Springside Chestnut Hill Academy (SCH) is hosting a virtual event for the community: Baseball: The Game of Statistics, on Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m.  to learn how statistics shape decisions, inform players, and translate onto the field.

SCH has pulled an impressive roster of voices in the field of baseball to lead the discussion, with panelists drawn from within the school’s parent and alumni community. In addition to Fuld, who is a Chestnut Hill resident and SCH parent, featured panelists include sportscasting legend and alumnus Dave Sims, a broadcaster for the MLB Seattle Mariners who recently became a Twitter sensation when his narration of the Mariner’s 21-year playoff drought ending went viral.

The third panelist is current Phillies scout Mike Koplove, another alumnus whose  own illustrious MLB career as a pitcher included a World Series win with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2001 and a USA bronze medal in the 2008 Olympics. Vanessa Chan, SCH parent and Penn professor, will moderate the program and take participants on an exciting journey through the world of sabermetrics, the statistics behind baseball’s in-game activity.

The conversation is open to the community.  To register to receive the link to the webinar: www.sch.org/connex. [Date may need to change based on the playoff schedule.]

This program is one of the school's “SCH Connex,” a series of virtual conversations, presentations, and events designed to engage and explore issues of our time, learn new skills, and connect in unique ways with members of our extended SCH community.
