How to get that summer job

Posted

Dear CHCC: It’s summer, I am vaccinated and looking for something to do.  Any thoughts?

Here in Philadelphia, youth organizations are trying to fill around 1000 summer jobs this year!  Take a look at this website:  https://phlsummerjobs.org/ for more information.  There have been a number of job fairs this month at recreation centers and parks in Germantown, South Philadelphia, North Philadelphia and Northeast Philadelphia.  These camps cannot open up without counselors in place, and it is a great way to earn some money (some are noted to be paying $15/ hour).

Here is a link to the application:  https://www.teachphl.org/summer-employment/

There are some virtual jobs available, including group teachers for hip-hop and keyboard.  There are supervisory roles and leadership roles needing quality candidates interested in summer programming, with various levels of academic requirements.  For a supervisory role, you will need a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education, or the human services field and one year of experience working with children, or

  • Bachelor’s degree, including 30 credit hours in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education, or the human services field and two years of experience working with children, or
  • An Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field and three years of experience working with children, or
  • Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university, including 30 credit hours in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education, or the human services field and four years of experience working with children
  • Excellent organizational skills including the ability to prioritize work and manage deadlines
  • Strong oral and written communications skills
  • The ability to facilitate relationships with families

Good luck on your summer job search!
