Holiday gift-giving trends for 2023

Posted

The New Year promises exciting innovation in technology along with renewed attention to sustainability and well-being – and gift giving seems poised to reflect those trends. This year’s most sought-after gifts will prioritize purpose over possessions: Think getaways over gadgets, tranquility over toys and sustainability over stuff.

At the top of 2023 wish lists? All signs point toward retreat-inspired relaxation gifts that promise digital detox opportunities – like a lovingly assembled wicker picnic basket packed with cozy throws, wine glasses, cheese boards and more for chill park ‘hangs’.

Equally appealing will be affordable staycation presents, such as city sightseeing passes alongside locally made snacks. There’s always an “experience in a box” – a gift that features hotel slippers, soundtracks, food and spirits from famous destinations.

If you’re splurging, buy an annual national park pass for nearby weekend escapes spent hiking new trails. Camping and outdoor adventure gear also camp out on 2023’s most wanted lists as Gen Z and Millennials plan more inexpensive trips into nature.

Wellbeing wishes will continue trending next year too. Retailers report soaring interest in fitness gifts that promise both fun and functionality for home sweats and outside training.

On that note, gifts like Hydrow rowing machines, Lululemon Studio Mirrors, and JaxJox smart kettlebells – which raised $12 million in Series A funding this year – should find their way under many trees.

Recovery tools like percussion massagers, compression systems and spiky massage balls also seem poised for popularity. And as supplements surpass $56 billion in sales across the globe, we expect to see the Health Nut’s holiday haul expand as Vitamin D, magnesium, melatonin and nootropic gifts get wrapped in 2023.

With conversations around women’s well-being on the rise, brands that cater to women’s health, like modern fertility aids, menopause support products, intimacy accessories and cycle-synced skincare kits all seem ripe for gifting.

Meanwhile, bath bombs and candles have been replaced by next-gen sensory gifts like ASMR makeup brushes, 3D audio headsets and dreamlight sleep masks that play lullaby music and nature sounds. And what better way to practice self-care than in sustainable luxury loungewear?

For foodies, elevated cooking tools grace holiday wish lists for next year. Expect to see sous vide appliances, countertop greenhouse gardens, cocktail mixology kits (shrub-making will be SO in) along with Korean barbecue grills for restaurant-quality Kalbi at home as Asian cooking booms. And to satiate the sweet tooth, rolled ice cream machines seem sure to churn up smiles.

Smartphones still top the list on the tech front, with Apple maintaining dominance. Electric bikes and scooters also electrify holiday hype as eco-minded Gen Z continues pushing sustainability to the forefront alongside reusable water bottles, compost bins and solar phone chargers. And for those who still use cash, tech tools that facilitate seamless payments rank high on gift lists too – crypto coin stocking stuffers anyone?

Even pets seem poised for plush presents next year as owners treat furry friends like family more than ever before. Clicker training starter kits, dog DNA tests screening breed traits and PARO interactive robot seal pups offering emotional support all make both thoughtful and exciting pet presents.

If this list doesn’t thrill, don’t worry. Classics are classics for a reason - and indulgences like cozy cashmere, silky pajamas, cult sneakers and next-gen kitchen gadgets won’t lose luster anytime soon.
