June 2 marked the third anniversary of the Black Lives Matter vigil at the Unitarian Society of Germantown, which began one week after the 2020 murder of George Floyd. Originally a daily event, the vigil now takes place weekly on Tuesdays from 5 to 6 p.m., during the evening rush hour in front of the USG church at 6511 Lincoln Drive. All are welcome to join this peaceful and family-friendly witness for justice. Info solidarity@usguu.org.

In response to community concerns, the development team behind the proposed project at 42-86 Germantown Ave. has released a new and smaller version of their development plan, with fewer units and more parking. The size of the structure has dropped from 174,000 sq. ft. to 157,000 sq. ft. and the total number of units is now 125, rather than 143. There are also 19 more parking spaces, for a total of 93. The new renderings also show street trees, bike racks and a 10 ft. setback to align with other buildings on Church Lane. The follow-up community meeting, in which the renderings will formally be shown to residents, is to be hosted by Faith Community Development Committee and 12th Ward Democratic Committee and scheduled for this Wednesday, June 14 at 6 p.m.
