The Chestnut Hill Center for Enrichment invites the community to its final springtime installment of “Healthy on the Hill,” at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 14. Our guest will be novelist, poet, foodie, Mt. Airy resident and storyteller Lynn Hoffman.

Born in Brooklyn, Hoffman has authored three novels (“The Bachelor’s Cat,” “Bang Bang,” and “Philadelphia Personal”), “A Short Course in Beer,” “The New Short Course in Wine” and (just out) “A Short Course in Rum,” as well as innumerable poems published over many years.

The focus of Hoffman’s presentation on May 14 will be “Radiation Days, the Rollicking, Lighthearted Story of A Man and His Cancer,” published in 2014. This subtitle is the author’s own description of a memoir filled with wit and practicality, that asks the question “What’s it worth to you to live another year?”

One reviewer writes that “Radiation Days” is “an uplifting must-read for anyone who has ever battled something they were told was unbeatable." Next week, Lynn Hoffman plans to talk about (1) what it was like to be sick and (2) what he learned that changed the way he lives now that he’s well. In Hoffman’s word, his is “an Epicurus-meets-the Buddha kind of story”.

Join the Center for Enrichment as we welcome Lynn Hoffman in the Bombay Room of the Chestnut Hill Hotel, 8229 Germantown Avenue, at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 14. Admission is free. Registering with the Center (215-248-0180 or the.chce@verizon.net) will help us plan seating and refreshments.
