The Chestnut Hill Business District is calling for local artists to submit applications by April 28 to participate in Chestnut Hill’s “Plein Air” event on Sunday, June 14. Artists must be 18 years or older to apply for the outdoor art festival and competition and will be notified about juried acceptance by the end of May.
Artists who are chosen to participate in the outdoor art festival on Germantown Avenue will have the opportunity to win cash prizes and free booth space at the Chestnut Hill Fall for the Arts Festival in October. Judges are Elizabeth Osborne, of the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, and Marsha Moss, public art curator and consultant. Jurors are Rachel Zimmerman, of InLiquid and Marsha Moss. Valley Green Bank is the lead sponsor for this new art event.
Application process:
• Must be 18 or above to apply
• Submit three digital non-photo- enhanced images and resume to Kate O’Neill at koneill@chestnuthillpa.com
• Application deadline: April 28
“Plein Air” attendees will also enjoy the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s Inside/Out project. There will be reproductions of eight paintings in its collection and eight paintings from the Woodmere Museum of Art’s collection installed at 11 locations on Germantown Avenue. In five locations, the Woodmere paintings are paired with the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s paintings that complement one another.
In addition, chef demonstrations will take place throughout the event, focused on the “Art of Grilling” and shops will participate with the “Art of Fashion.”
“Plein Air” sponsors also include the Gravers Lane and McCarty galleries. The rain date is Sunday, June 21. For more information, or to apply for “Plein Air,” visit www.chestnuthillpa.com.
