The Woodmere Art Museum has opened its revamped museum store this holiday season with a focus on highlighting local artists, makers and designers.
And for the holiday shopping season, the museum will extend the regular store space for its new Winter Wonder Shop, which opens Thursday, Nov. 16 and will remain open during regular museum hours, seven days a week through Dec. 31.
Hilary Jay and Janet Barag of the Department of Better LLC curated the new concept. They have brought together more than 60 new vendors to offer an eclectic selection of original artwork, ceramics, glass, sculpture, clothing, handbags, jewelry and more. Many items draw inspiration from pieces in Woodmere's permanent art collection.
Featured artists and designers include Len Barag, Dona Dalton, Maria Eife, Amanda Kaiserman, Warren Mueller, Sardine Clothing, Michael Biello, Cheryl Ana Atelier, Lisa Vershbow, and John Wind. The museum is also collaborating with several local institutions for the first time, including Moore College of Art & Design, Clay Studio, Frieda Community and the Center for Creative Works.
The Center for Creative Works provides opportunities for professional development and representation of neurodiverse artists. The gift shop will showcase art created in their progressive studio programs for adults with intellectual disabilities.
Additionally, the store will feature vibrant products made by young student artists from Fresh Artists, a nonprofit that brings arts programs into underfunded public schools. The pieces were created during student visits to Woodmere to view the permanent collections.
With six times more inventory than the regular store, Woodmere’s Winter Wonder Shop will spill outside its regular space into the museum's Antonelli Gallery, with an extensive gift selection where shoppers can find everything from Judaica and repurposed Christmas stockings to candles, keychains and specialty foods.
Ceramic artists Larry Spitz and Carol Klein have generously donated 100% of their sales to support Woodmere. Other local businesses, including Material Culture and Beaty American-City Ore, have loaned decorative items to help transform the space.
All purchases from the Museum Store support Woodmere's exhibitions, classes, concerts and other public programming.
The shop, located in the museum at 9201 Germantown Ave., is free and open to the public Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with extended Saturday hours until 6 p.m.
