The Springfield Township Board of Commissioners on Jan. 5 elected new leadership and township officers during its first meeting of 2026.

The meeting began with Susanna O. Ratsavong being elected unanimously as board president. A lawyer, she joined the board in 2021, then was elected vice president in 2023. In her time on the board, Ratsavong has emphasized the importance of community feedback, and has helped move forward infrastructure projects, township planning, and policies. She accepted the presidential role by thanking the board members, and acknowledging former president James Lee’s guidance and leadership.

Brendan May was unanimously elected vice president of the board. He has served on the Environmental Resources Committee and has involved himself in the community while on the board.

Also sworn in were board members Robert Goldberg and Thad Kirk.

Township officers who were appointed or reappointed were A. Michael Taylor as township manager/secretary, responsible for the supervising of departments, daily operations, and the implementation of the board’s policies; Andrew R. Freimuth as township solicitor, who advises the board and township staff in legal proceedings; Timothy Woodrow as township engineer, responsible for advising the board on the development of infrastructure and projects; Joelle Kleinman as treasurer; Melissa Wanczyk as deputy tax collector; and Joy Bergey as vacancy board chair, empowered to appoint a qualified and registered elector to fill an open seat if a commissioner seat is vacant.

The board also voted unanimously to designate TD Bank as the depository for township funds and the daily investment program.

Ratsavong concluded the meeting by thanking all members of the board and congratulating the newly elected and reelected officials.
