Sidewalk sale returns to Hill

Posted

Royal Rummage is coming back to Germantown Avenue for the first time since the pandemic, with 20 businesses participating in the traditional sidewalk sale – with antiques, home services, art, jewelry, clothing and other items on offer.

The sale starts Wednesday, July 19, at 5 p.m. and will run until Saturday, July 22. It will feature inventory that local businesses are trying to move and be a feature of Chestnut Hill’s "Summer Wednesdays," which takes place before the 7:30 p.m. Pastorius Park Concert.

“Everything is going to be mostly outside so it’s going to be a traditional sidewalk sale; there's going to be a lot of color and activity on the Avenue,” said Georgia Forjohn, marketing and events coordinator of the Chestnut Hill Business District. “It’s something that usually even has people coming back from the shore to come and shop.”

On Wednesday, the sale will run from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. From July 20 to July 22, it will run during regular retail hours for each store, which is typically 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Royal Rummage sale dates all the way back to the '60s, and has carried on for decades as an event that people in the neighborhood can expect every single summer. Bringing it back to full strength has been a priority for the CHBD.
