I hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day. I'd like to pause and recognize our veterans and local VFW post in Chestnut Hill. I hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day. I'd like to pause and recognize our veterans and local VFW post in Chestnut Hill. This year, more than 100 veterans, their families, and community members came together for this day of remembrance. Ceremonies were held at Chestnut Hill's three war memorials: Buckley Park (Vietnam Memorial), Water Tower (WWII Memorial) and at the Celtic Cross (WWI Memorial) before concluding with a community lunch at the local VFW post. Prayers were shared for comrades, the fallen, and their families. It was great to see so many friends and neighbors. With many of our freedoms under attack, I think about the bravery and sacrifices of military families. Hearing so many stories of those who recall the 17- and 18-year-olds in their families from this community going off to war, writing letters, and not returning is heartbreaking. These stories are disappearing, and I love that they are still being uncovered and shared by passionate community friends of mine. On this occasion, we take a moment out of the hurrying around, glued to our screens and other distractions, and think about what's most precious. That's life and family; those by bloodline and those created by circumstance or chance. Thanks to all my military friends for your service. If you served in the military, or have a family member or neighbor who served, please ask them to reach out to the VFW which is here to support and welcome them. Thanks to the VFW and organizers for their hospitality.
