It was a lousy spring day at Episcopal Academy for the 2026 Inter-Ac League track and field championships. It was overcast with intermittent rain showers last Saturday, and as the afternoon wore on, the cool weather felt downright chilly at times.

The conditions didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of fans from Penn Charter and Germantown Academy, who saw their girls’ teams finish first and second, respectively, in the meet scoring. The Quakers won the league championship by a wide margin, rolling up 206 team points while GA posted 123 points and 2025 champ Episcopal wound up with 78.5.

After that came Baldwin School (55.5 points), Springside Chestnut Hill Academy (38), the Academy of Notre Dame (27), and Agnes Irwin (12).

The boys’ teams located east of the Schuylkill River did not fare as well. The top three places went to the Main Line schools, 2026 champion Haverford School (155 points), Episcopal (137), and Malvern Prep (130). Penn Charter finished fourth with 70 points, followed by GA (55) and SCH (six).

The field events always are first on the schedule at the league meet, and the female MVP of the championships, PC senior Michaela Poland, started out by winning the high jump with a five-foot leap. Quakers sophomore Keagan Seth placed second here, and she was third in the long jump.

The winner in the long jump was SCH sophomore Nadia Bevan (18’6”), while a fellow 10th-grader, GA’s Jocelyn Germain, placed second. In the triple jump, Penn Charter got a winning effort from Taliyah Davis (35’7”) and a third-place outcome from fellow sophomore Margaret Foley. In between these two, GA freshman Ruby McKee was runner-up.

Patriots senior Layla Gentile won the shot put (37’2”), and her junior teammate Jo Owens came in third. Gentile was second in the discus, where third place went to SCH sophomore Madison Nathaniel. Germantown Academy claimed the top two spots in the pole vault thanks to senior Elli Wang, the winner (7’6”), and sophomore Naomi Wong.

There were relatively slim pickings for the boys in the field events, where area schools had no top-three finishes in five of the seven events. GA had two seniors reach the podium; Stas Kraynak won the high jump at 6’4”, and Jet Dickerson placed second in the long jump.

Dickerson continued to provide points for the Patriots throughout the day. He earned second place in the 100-meter dash and also in the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles. PC senior Nate Keller finished third in both the 100 dash and 110 hurdles.

The Main Line teams nabbed the top three spots in the 200- and 400-meter dash, but GA had junior Tyler Benson wind up third in the 800, while an 11th-grader from Penn Charter, Matthew Dunn, placed second in the 1600 and third in the 3200.

The highlight for the Quakers boys was setting a new league record in the 4 x 100 meter relay with a time of 42.55 seconds. The quartet of Keller, junior Christian Downs, senior Matt Furda, and freshman Ethan Leggett trimmed one tenth of a second off the old Inter-Ac mark. PC placed second in the 4 x 800 and third in the 4 x 400.

The Quaker girls would chop six seconds off of the old league record in the 4 x 400 relay. Junior Logan Lloyd, senior Gwen Hamilton, and junior Tisa Edwards preceded Poland as the Quakers clocked in at 3:50.76.

Earlier in the afternoon, Germantown Academy junior Piper Loney won the 100-meter dash (12.30 seconds), and she anchored the Patriots’ winning 4 x 100 relay a little later. GA was also the winner in the 4 x 800 relay (10:05.13).

Poland won the 200 for Penn Charter (24.90) while the SCH Blue Devils’ Bevan came in second. Lloyd was second in the 100 and third in the 200, while third place in the 100 went to Marlee Howard, an SCH senior.

Episcopal took gold in the 400, with Poland and Lloyd coming in second and third. Charter’s middle-distance ace, Hamilton, reigned in the 800, winning in 2:16.05 while senior Abby Downin and Marlie Klein completed a one-two-three sweep for the Quakers.

As anticipated, PC freshman phenom Mackenzie Skelly was the victor in both the 1600 meter (4:45.80) and 3200 meter (10:46.14) run. Klein, the junior, stayed close to Skelly in the 1600, so both girls ended up surpassing the former league record. Skelly’s classmate, Beatrice O’Connell, placed third in the 3200.

Zsuzsi Pollock, a Quakers senior, won the 100 meter hurdles in 17.89 seconds, with GA freshman Ellie Falco emerging as the runner-up. Charter junior Naira Presley was third in both hurdles races. The 300 hurdles was won by GA junior Claire McKee (47.48), and PC’s Edwards was second.
