As part of SEPTA’s efforts to improve service and better align train times with rider needs, new schedules for SEPTA’s Regional Rail lines are going into effect this week, the agency has announced.
The updated schedules are designed to enhance service on several key lines, including additional trips on the Chestnut Hill East line, as well as the Wilmington and Trenton lines, and increase service frequency from Wayne Junction directly to Philadelphia International Airport.
The changes, which started Monday, reflect the arrival of a newly acquired fleet of cars from the Maryland Area Rail Commuter (MARC) system. SEPTA said this will increase the number of vehicles in service for the morning and evening rush, and allow more cars per train. It’s intended to help ease crowding that persists on some trains as SEPTA works to complete federally mandated repairs to the 50-year-old Silverliner IV fleet.
