Philadelphia City Council, in passing two “nuisance-business” bills (“Neighbors ready to act as nuisance-business bills pass Council,” Dec. 17 Local) seems to have missed the biggest nuisance business of all, by far. In all of Mt. Airy, I can’t identify a single business that encourages gambling, loitering, prostitution, or public urination. Not one. But lawn-care and gutter-cleaning businesses that use gas-powered blowers are numerous and they create an enormous nuisance… Those terribly polluting, louder-than-jet-airplane machines have destroyed many an otherwise pleasant …

In all of Mt. Airy, I can’t identify a single business that encourages gambling, loitering, prostitution, or public urination. Not one. But lawn-care and gutter-cleaning businesses that use gas-powered blowers are numerous and they create an enormous nuisance… Those terribly polluting, louder-than-jet-airplane machines have destroyed many an otherwise pleasant afternoon in Mt. Airy, and I am very sorry that the bills don’t seem to include these in their definition of what constitutes a nuisance.
