This Small Business Saturday, Mt. Airy is encouraging residents to shop local with a fun Go Mt. Airy Shopping Crawl. On Nov. 25, over 20 small businesses along Germantown Avenue will offer specials, refreshments, and more as part of the holiday shopping event.
The crawl provides a fun way to kick off the holiday shopping season while reinvesting dollars back into the neighborhood – and business owners are excited to showcase everything Mt. Airy has to offer.
"Mt. Airy is a holiday shopping destination for anyone seeking out gifts that are locally-made, ethically sourced, and charmingly unique,” said Phil Dawson, executive director of the Mt. Airy CDC. “We've seen so many exciting new businesses open this year, and there's no better time to check them out.”
Participants can pick up a passport from any of the participating shops. Get it stamped at 8 or more businesses, and redeem it for a special Mt. Airy holiday ornament. It's a way to explore local stores while supporting neighborhood merchants.
Many shops will have pop-ups, deals, and activities happening throughout the day. For example, ARTrageous Brush & Flow will offer art demonstrations, High Point Cafe has $1 off drinks with any food purchase, and Rothe Florists will provide free coffee and donuts.
Several restaurants are participating too, like Trattoria Moma, Toska Brewery, Bar Lizette, and McMenamin's Tavern. It's a chance to eat, drink, and ‘shop local’ all in one day.
Learning My Way Montessori will be providing childcare during the crawl so parents can enjoy a day of shopping. Registration is required, and limited to 17 children between the hours of 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. The cost is $25 per child, with 25% off the second child and 50% off the third child.
Submit your passport by emailing a photo of it to us at info@mtairycdc.org, or placing it in our dropbox at 6703 Germantown Ave., at the back of the building behind the federal credit union. Shopping crawl passports can be picked up starting at 10 a.m. on November 25 at any of the locations.

For anyone looking to venture over to Mt. Airy Village, located near Weavers Way food coop, there will be a Handmade Holiday Market featuring more than 25 local artisans on the 600 block of Carpenter Lane.
