Friends of the Wissahickon's print newsletter has run as an insert in Wissahickon Magazine for nearly two years, but the Chestnut Hill Local publishes the magazine and is solely responsible for the magazine's content, not Friends of the Wissahickon (FOW).

Friends of the Wissahickon's print newsletter has run as an insert in Wissahickon Magazine for nearly two years, but the Chestnut Hill Local publishes the magazine and is solely responsible for the magazine's content, not Friends of the Wissahickon (FOW). 

Many people have reached out to us regarding the most recent edition's cover story ("Urban Wilderness, Unexpected Thrills" by Ben Silver) chronicling the popularity of Amar Mohamed's YouTube videos of mountain biking in Wissahickon Valley Park. The article describes Mohamed's joy in speeding down "illegal fall line" trails, going airborne (as displayed in the cover photo) and similar actions. 

FOW has for more than three decades advocated for responsible, informed use of this heavily trafficked multiuse trail system. Following the officially designated trails while utilizing the established yield pattern, with mountain bikes yielding to all users, is at the foundation of our position. The activities cited above and reported in the article do not follow these values, nor did FOW suggest them or contribute to the article.
