As a lifelong resident of Northwest Philadelphia, I know how much this community, like every community, values its local hospital. 

When Hahnemann Hospital closed, I committed to work to ensure there would be “No More Hahnemanns.’’First with Einstein HealthCare Network and now with Chestnut Hill Hospital, that commitment is being met. 

Hospitals are the economic and health-care backbones of any community. They are among the top employers in the area, directly and indirectly providing thousands of jobs. They also are always on call day or night when your parent, child, friend, or other loved one needs care. We all know that when a hospital closes its doors the whole community suffers. I applaud everyone for working together to ensure that did not happen with Chestnut Hill Hospital. 

The local community is very familiar with Chestnut Hill Hospital. It is where you and your family receive quality care – care you know you can trust – from the doctors and nurses you’ve known for years. That’s why I fought so hard to keep this hospital open, and why its becoming part of Temple Health is important. The alliance with Redeemer Health and the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine will protect access to health care in the area through stability and strength.   

I’ve worked closely with Temple Health for many years and have seen firsthand their commitment to the community. I believe they entered into this partnership because they want Chestnut Hill Hospital to be able to continue to serve our community, providing the high-quality care you and your family have trusted for years. Temple Health is also a world-class academic health system, which means it will bring new and advanced treatment options to Chestnut Hill Hospital. The services and emergency care you’ve always relied on will still be there, but there will also be new specialty services and high-end treatments and procedures right in your backyard. This will make our community safer and healthier and bring world-class medicine to Chestnut Hill.

Chestnut Hill Hospital is not going to become another Hahnemann. Due to this alliance, Chestnut Hill will have the resources it needs to continue investing in and serving this community for many years to come. This kind of stability, commitment to the community, and sense of shared values is vital, and it’s why I support this partnership so strongly.
