Christine Reardon has been appointed the new head of Lower School at Germantown Friends School, effective July 2014.
Reardon was first introduced to Quaker education as a high school student at Lincoln School in Providence, R.I., and subsequently at Swarthmore College. Soon after graduating from Swarthmore, she embarked on a career of teaching and leadership in Friends’ schools.
After several years teaching at Sandy Spring Friends School in Maryland, Reardon moved to Friends Select in Philadelphia. There, she taught throughout the Lower and Middle schools and served as a grant writer in the Advancement Office, an Admissions associate, advisor for Curriculum and director of Summer Programs.
She was a 2006 Klingenstein Fellow, and also received an M.A. in Education Leadership from Teachers College, Columbia University.
Reardon comes to GFS from her current position as assistant head of Lower School at Wilmington Friends School, where leadership of a strong teacher intern program is one of her many recognized accomplishments. A dedicated and talented educator, she brings to the GFS community a tremendous wealth of experience and knowledge in teaching and learning that is rooted in Quaker beliefs and that seeks to expose diverse communities of teachers, students and families to Quaker education.
“As an educator deeply committed to both Quaker education and urban schools, Germantown Friends has inspired me and captured my imagination for many years,” Reardon said. “I am delighted that I will now have an opportunity to work closely with members of this community each and every day, bringing the mission and philosophy of this great school to life.”
