The following crime report is for crimes reported in Chestnut Hill and Mt. Airy for the period from June 26 to July 10.

The following crime report is for crimes reported in Chestnut Hill and Mt. Airy for the period from June 26 to July 10. (Some crimes that occurred on dates earlier than the current period but weren’t reported until later may be included.)

Chestnut Hill

June 21 Aggravated Assault. Complainant in the 7700 block of Crittenden Street said he was talking with an offender in the parking lot and the conversation escalated, prompting the offender to punch complainant and when complainant got into his car the offender pulled out a handgun and pointed it at the complainant.

June 26 Burglary. Complainant in the 700 block of West Mermaid Lane stated that two bikes were stolen from an attached garage.

June 27 Theft. A complainant parked her car near West Northwestern and Germantown Avenues to go for a walk and when she returned her side car window was smashed. A Vera Bradley purse, debit, credit and identification cards were stolen.

June 27 Theft. A complainant parked her vehicle in the 1000 block of Kitchens Lane and returned to find her rear window smashed and a tan bag missing.

June 29 Theft. A complainant in the unit block of West Hampton Road left his vehicle unlocked and when he returned his garage door opener was missing and a bike in the garage was gone.

June 29 Theft. Complainant in the 7700 block of Stenton Avenue said an unknown person took her cell phone. 

June 30 Robbery. A male approached a teller at the Citizens Bank in the 8600 block of Germantown Avenue and handed the teller a note stating “This is a bank robbery.” The teller gave the offender between $3,500 to $4,000. Offender fled southbound on Germantown Avenue.

June 30 Theft from motor vehicle. A complainant in the unit block of Hillcrest Avenue reported that an offender took bank cards from his vehicle and he has video.

July 1 Theft from motor vehicle. Complainant reported that the window of a  rental vehicle parked in the 700 block of Cornelia Place was smashed and items including a laptop, credit card and wallet were stolen.

July 1 Kidnapping. A complainant reports that he was walking in the 200 block of East Evergreen Avenue when two males approached him and demanded money. After handing over $60, he was forced into the vehicle and driven to an unknown location. The offenders threatened to kill the complainant unless they received $2,000. The complainant insisted he had money at home and he was followed inside his house at gunpoint to get $3,500. Complainant was then driven to a rear alley in the 7200 block of Pitville Avenue and told to walk. Complainant’s iPhone and cash via a Cash App transaction were taken.

July 1 Motor vehicle theft. Complainant parked her vehicle in an apartment parking lot in the 1000 block of East Mt. Airy Avenue and when she returned her rear passenger window and steering column were broken.

July 2 Motor vehicle theft. Complainant in the unit block of East Mt. Pleasant called police after seeing two unknown males in his vehicle. When police arrived, the two males were still in the car, the steering column was busted and the two men were arrested.

July 2 Simple assault. Complainant in the unit block of East Cliveden Street reported that his child’s mother kicked in the door of his apartment and the couple got into a physical altercation because the complainant attempted to put out the offender without her child. Police transported the offender to Einstein hospital to check for injuries. Complainant sustained lacerations.

July 2 Motor vehicle theft. Complainant in the 100 block of East Durham Street reported that an unidentified person broke his steering column and driver’s side window.

July 5 Theft from motor vehicle. Woman reported that someone broke into her car, which was parked on the unit block of Northwestern Ave., and stole airpods, a handbag and gift cards worth $900.

July 5 Theft. from motor vehicle. A woman reported that someone smashed the window of her car, which was parked on the unit block of Valley Green Road, and stole a wallet, a credit card and a handbag. 

July 7 Shoplifting/theft. A man came into the T-Mobile store on the 7700 block of Crittenden Street and stole Iphones and an Apple watch worth $ 4,629.94.



Mt. Airy

April 27 Embezzlement. A manager at The Business Center on the 7500 block of Germantown Avenue reported that a former bookkeeper had called and confessed to stealing $12,500 from the company’s Citizens Bank account over a two month period, from April 27 to June 20. 

June 2 Theft. Complainant in the 600 block of Westview Avenue saw a male and female offender rummage through the mail and walk away with an envelope.

June 13. Theft Complainant in the 6400 block of Greene Street reported that items were taken from after being delivered.

June 26 Motor vehicle theft and property damage. Complainant in the 500 block of Vernon Road reports vehicle window and ignition were damaged.

June 27 Burglary. A building engineer at the Emlen School in the 6500 block of Chew Avenue reported that unknown persons cut metal security screens on rear exit door. No window damage was reported, no entry, gained.

June 28 Motor vehicle theft. A complainant in the 7300 block of Bryan Street returned to the car to find her rear window broken and the ignition and USB cord on the front seat. 

June 29 Theft from motor vehicle. Man reported that someone came onto his property on the 6300 block of McCallum Street and ransacked his car, stealing a pair of $150 sunglasses.

June 29 Aggravated Assault. A complainant at  Germantown and East Mount Pleasant Avenues reported that he walked out on the street and saw an offender by his vehicle and he heard glass breaking. When he got the offender's attention, the offender jumped into a black Hyundai Tucson and pointed a black firearm at the complainant. 

June 29 Motor vehicle theft. A complainant reported that she parked her vehicle in the 1200 block of East Mt. Airy Avenue and when she returned the vehicle was missing.

July 1 Theft. A complainant in the 200 block of East Sharpnack Street reported that she hired movers to move a washer, dryer and refrigerator. The movers left them on the sidewalk and they are now missing.

July 1 Motor vehicle theft. Complainant reported that he has camera footage of an unknown male near his vehicle looking into it with a flashlight and in the next clip, the vehicle is gone.

July 2 Vandalism/destruction of property. Complainant reported that someone broke into the Germantown Church of Brethren on the 6600 block of Germantown Avenue and damaged some musical equipment. 

July 3 Vandalism/destruction of property. Complainant reported that someone broke into a Pediatric practice on the 6600 block of Germantown Avenue, damaging the door handle. 

July 3 Motor vehicle theft. Man reported that he noticed his car, which had been parked outside his house on the 300 block of E. Upsal St. was missing when he woke up in the morning. 

July 3 Swindle/Confidence Game. Man who lives on the 7100 block of Chew Ave. reported that someone charged $110 to his bank card. 

July 3 Impersonation. A man who lives on the 1000 block of Westview Street reported that someone used an ID that had his name on it, but not his face, to take money from his savings account, and to open another account. 

July 4 Motor vehicle theftA man reported that someone broke the ignition of his car, which was parked on the 900 block of E. Mt. Airy Ave., and that it rolled into his wife’s car and damaged the bumper. 

July 5 Motor vehicle theft. A woman called to report that someone stole her silver Hyundai Elantra from the 6600 block of Sprague St.

July 6 Motor vehicle theft. A woman reported that someone smashed the window and broke the steering column of her car, which was parked on the 6800 block of Emlen Street. 

July 7 Assault. Woman who lives in an apartment on the 6300 block of Germantown Ave. reported that when she and someone she shares her car with got into an argument about money, the person punched her multiple times in the upper body, and now her car key, debit card and $20 cash are missing. 

July 7 Burglary. Man reported that someone went into his garage, located on the 500 block of E. Allens Lane, and stole two bikes.

July 8 Motor vehicle theft. A man who lives on the 400 block of W. Mt. Airy Ave. reported that his car was missing 

July 9 Motor vehicle theft. Complainant reported that someone smashed the driver's side window of his car, which was parked on the 700 block of S. Mt. Pleasant Ave., damaging the steering column and ignition.
