Crime Report: Gun stolen from car, car taken from gas station

The following crime report is for crimes reported in Chestnut Hill and Mt. Airy from Dec. 21 through Dec. 27. Some reports are prior to the date range and were reported after the fact.

Chestnut Hill

Dec. 22 Vehicle entered on 100 block of E. Mermaid Lane. A woman received a text from a family member that her car was left with the door open. She checked on the car to find the door open, her battery dead and her glove box open. It appeared nothing was taken. A number of people who found their cars entered and possessions taken in recent weeks found their car doors left open.

Dec. 26 Theft from vehicle on 8600 block of Germantown Ave. A woman told police she parked her car in the lot behind stores on the east side the 8600 block of Germantown Ave. at 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 26. When she returned to her car on the morning of Dec. 27, she found a large rock on her passenger seat, her front passenger side window shattered. Taken from her vehicle was a black purse containing her wallet, ID, gun permit and a loaded Smith & Wesson revolver. Value of stolen items is $750.  

Mt. Airy

Dec. 21 Theft of vehicle on the 8300 block of Stenton Ave.  A man told police he left his car being filled at the gas station and also left his keys in the car. He walked over to the barber shop next door and a man got in his vehicle and drove away. The car was a Nissan Altima worth approximately $6,000. Also in the vehicle was the owner’s wallet with ID, cards and $400 cash. A running car was taken from the same location on Dec. 19.

Dec. 22. Retail theft at 7000 block of Germantown Ave. A store manager saw someone place items in pockets. Police arrived and apprehended the offender. Security camera footage at the location showed the person had taken items from the store before.

Dec. 24 Aggravated Assault/ Domestic abuse with a weapon on the 6900 block of Cresheim Rd. A complainant told police that a man threatened to break their jaw and punched them in the face. Complainant said the man pointed a black handgun at them.
