The following crime report is for crimes reported in Chestnut Hill and Mt. Airy for the period from July 26 to Aug. 6. (Some crimes that occurred on dates earlier than the current period but weren’t reported until later may be included.)

Chestnut Hill: 

June 1 Theft. A woman reported that $150 and prescription medication was missing from her purse after she passed out during dental work she had done on the 7700 block of Crittenden Street.

July 26 Burglary. A man discovered that multiple bikes were taken from his garage in the 300 block of West Highland Avenue. The four bikes were worth a total of $4500. 

July 30 Theft from Motor Vehicle. A woman arrived at her vehicle on the 7600 block of Stenton Avenue and saw that her center console was open with her firearm missing.

July 31 Burglary. A woman stated that someone who did not live in her home on the 7800 block of Germantown Avenue kicked in the front door. Police observed the broken door frame and ‘arrested the doer.’

July 31 Theft of Motor Vehicle Parts or Accessories. A man discovered that his license plate was missing from the back of his work truck, which was parked on the 7800 block of Germantown Ave.

July 31 Theft from Motor Vehicle. An unknown offender broke through the right passenger side window of a vehicle parked on the 400 block of West Chestnut Hill Avenue, and stole a purse, cash and multiple IDs.

August 1 Theft From Motor Vehicle. An unknown offender broke the passenger side window of a vehicle on Valley Green Road and stole two wallets, $463, a license, and credit cards.

August 2 Theft From Building. An android cell phone and a 65 inch Insignia TV were taken from a building in the 8300 blocks of Germantown Avenue. The rear door was found ‘unsecure and untampered with’. Multiple employees have keys and no alarms were set off.

August 2 Theft From Motor Vehicle. A complainant stated that an unknown person broke into a couple of vehicles on Valley Green Road and Wolcott Drive. The offender smashed the right window of one car to take a red purse and a debit card, and smashed the driver’s side window of the second car to take a black purse, green wallet, debit card and keys.

August 2 Theft From Motor Vehicle. The incident occurred in the 7700 block of Crittenden Street.

August 2 Motor Vehicle Theft. A woman said that she parked her car in the parking lot on East Moreland Avenue, where she works, and when she returned it was gone.

August 4 Destruction/Damage/Vandalism of Property. A complainant reported that the window and steering column of their vehicle was damaged while it was parked on Crittenden Street and East Mermaid Lane.

August 4 Theft From Motor Vehicle. A complainant reported that the driver's side window of their parked vehicle on Valley Green Road and Wolcott Drive was smashed and Rayban glasses and Ativan were stolen.

August 5 Theft From Motor Vehicle. A woman parked her car on the 400 block of West Willow Grove Avenue and discovered that her driver side rear window was broken and that her iPad, air pods, and bank cards were taken. Two transactions were attempted with the bank cards but were stopped by the bank.

August 5 Theft From Motor Vehicle. A woman’s vehicle was broken into when it was parked on the 7600 block of Stenton Avenue, and the offender took credit cards and ID. After a $300 online purchase was made with her information, she received a text that her bank card was being used.

August 5 Motor Vehicle Theft. A complainant reported a stolen vehicle, which was later located on East Mermaid Lane with a window broken and the steering column damaged. 

August 6 Theft from Motor Vehicle. A complainant stated that an unknown offender took items out of their glove compartment of a car parked on the 7900 block of Stenton Avenue, but left the items in the car.

Mt. Airy

July 23 Theft. A complainant stated that an unknown person stole their package of clothes from their steps on the 100 block of East Springer Street.

July 30 Burglary. A complainant said that an unknown offender entered their house on the 400 block of East Allens Lane through the foyer window and stole an iPhone 13 and a checkbook.

July 31 Lost/Missing Property. A man lost his $4000 Apple Macbook Pro and tracked it to the 200 block of West Mount Pleasant Avenue. The man and the police knocked on the door, got no answer, and will try again another time. 

July 31 Theft From Motor Vehicle. An unknown offender broke into the side window of a vehicle parked on the 100 block of East Cliveden Street and stole the owner’s work tools and work keys.

August 1 Theft. An offender took a mountain bike from the front yard of a property in the 7100 block of Devon Street.

August 1 Theft From Motor Vehicle. A woman reported that someone smashed the driver's side front window of her car, which was parked on White Trail and Kitchens Lane, and took her purse, cash, credit cards, and ID.

August 2 Theft From Building. An android cell phone and a 65 inch Insignia TV were taken from a building in the 8300 blocks of Germantown Avenue. The rear door was found ‘unsecure and untampered with’. Multiple employees have keys and no alarms were set off.

August 2 Theft. Unknown males ran out of the Wawa on the 7200 block of Germantown Avenue with candy and red bull that they didn’t pay for.

August 2 Theft from Motor Vehicle. A woman who parked her car on the 6600 block of Musgrave Street reported that an unknown person broke in and stole a folder containing her registration and insurance card. The ignition was also tampered with.

August 3 Motor Vehicle Theft. A man stated that someone entered his car on the 7100 block of Bryan Street and damaged the steering column.

August 4 Burglary. A woman who lives on the 100 block of Meehan Avenue said that while she was picking up her daughter, a friend of the daughter broke into the house through the rear kitchen window. The offender was still on location when the complainant got back home and did not take anything when she left. 

August 4 Motor Vehicle Theft. Police arrested a man in a car that was parked on the 400 block of East Sharpnack Street with a broken window and steering column. The offender tried to flee but was caught by the police.

August 4 Motor Vehicle Theft. A complainant stated that they left their car parked on Boyer Street and East Upsal Street, and later discovered that it was gone. The car had no battery.

August 6 Theft From Motor Vehicle. A woman said that someone broke the passenger side window of her van, parked on the 600 block of West Allens Lane, and took her purse, insurance cards, credit cards, cash and ID.
