The city is launching a free business tax preparation program to provide small businesses earning less than $250,000 in revenue with free local, state and federal tax preparation assistance. That includes navigating several changes to the city’s tax structure, according to the Department of Commerce, which is administering the program.

The program was unveiled at a City Hall event on Jan. 15, attended by Mayor Cherelle L. Parker, city officials, and 19 local tax professionals.

Eligible businesses will be matched with accountants across the city who speak multiple languages including Spanish and Mandarin. Services will be available in person and virtually. Landlords and property rental businesses are not eligible for this program.

Businesses can contact the program manager by emailing businesstaxprep@phila.gov or the Mayor’s Business Action Team by calling 215-683-2100.

The Department of Commerce pays the tax professionals directly so businesses will not be billed for these services, but they are limited to a maximum of $3,000 per business. Program availability will be based on overall funding and demand. The city said it is offering the program to help small businesses adapt to the changes in the tax structure, reduce financial burdens, and strengthen Philadelphia’s small businesses.

Eligible businesses that complete the application will begin to be matched with accountants this month, when the tax season begins. Tax preparers will provide all businesses with copies after filing.
