Charles Blockson’s contributions

Posted 7/17/25

Dear Editor,

Grateful to Len Lear for his fine tribute to the life and work of Charles Blockson, Philadelphia’s eminent scholar, historian and collector who died recently.

Few have contributed as much to our knowledge of Black history, including key events and people in Pennsylvania, as Blockson.

Thankfully, for us in the Philadelphia area, Blockson’s legacy lives on in the amazing collection of African Americana he brought to Temple University.

It is open to the public.
