In observance of World Water Day on March 22, an event dedicated to raising awareness about the crucial importance of water and the need for its protection, the Chestnut Hill Conservancy is hosting a lecture about sustainable practices for residential rainwater management.

The free lecture, part of the conservancy’s Ask the Experts series, is set to feature Hap Haven, a nationally recognized sustainability expert with more than 40 years of experience in home and garden performance. The event, titled "SunHaven Carriage House – A Tour of Rainwater Management Systems," will take place virtually via Zoom on Wednesday, April 10, from 7:00 to 8:30 PM.

Haven's presentation will guide attendees through the SunHaven Carriage House, a century-old stone building in Germantown, showcasing nine innovative rainwater management systems designed to mitigate stormwater runoff. These practical solutions are tailored for homeowners looking to implement sustainable practices in their properties.

Hap Haven, celebrated for his pioneering work in the sustainability-at-home movement, has facilitated the training of more than 1,000 contractors for Building Performance Institute certifications, earning him a place in the BPI Hall of Fame in 2011. His approach to energy education and his leadership in both for-profit and non-profit sectors have significantly influenced residential sustainability.

The Chestnut Hill Conservancy, in collaboration with the Chestnut Hill Community Association, offers this educational program to emphasize the importance of sustainable landscape care, especially for historic homes. The session is sponsored by Wallace Landscape Associates, along with the conservancy's general and supportive businesses.
