Congratulations to the Chestnut Hill Local on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the very first edition of the Local.
It is quite an accomplishment.
As Executive Director of the Chestnut Hill Community Association, I am very grateful for our relationship with the Local. We work closely with its reporters and staff to ensure that people who read the paper, here in Chestnut Hill and the surrounding areas, have information that is important to the community at large.
As the organization that owns the Local, albeit with no editorial control, our offices are directly across the hall from the Local’s – so I see firsthand what goes into making it happen. I am amazed at how hard the entire staff works to make sure a quality paper goes to print every week, sometimes with an even shorter turnaround time than is typical.
As many of you know, your copy of the Local is a very important benefit of your membership with the CHCA and is something that many people tell us that they look forward to every week. Neighbors, businesses, and visitors often celebrate the uniqueness of the Chestnut Hill neighborhood – and having a weekly newspaper that covers the social and cultural events of the area and also informs and educates us about the news that affects us on a local level is a big part of what makes our neighborhood so unique.
In a time when many of us get our news through sound bites that come from our phones, it is a moment of self-care to take the time to sit down and read the Local. It helps center us to our community while it provides information that we need and enjoy about Chestnut Hill and the greater upper Northwest area of Philadelphia.
So bravo Chestnut Hill Local! The CHCA looks forward to working with you for another 65 years, at least!
