Friends of the Wissahickon will host a family-friendly hike with wellness consultant Brandi Aulston on April 13, starting at Houston Playground in Roxborough.

The walk offers participants the chance to connect with the outdoors, engage in interactive exercises, reflect, practice mindfulness and experience the beauty of the Wissahickon.

Registration is required. The event will be recorded and participants must sign a waiver. Participants should wear sturdy shoes or boots with socks and be ready for rocky trails that may be slippery.

Next month, FOW will host a special event in its Spring Valley Talk series in celebration of the group’s 100th anniversary. During the May 15 gathering, architect Kate Cowing will discuss the history of the Wissahickon structures built through the Works Progress Administration (WPA) employment program, created in 1935. The talk will be hosted in-person at the Valley Green Inn and virtually on Zoom, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Can’t make it? The Zoom recording will be posted to FOW’s YouTube following the event.
