It was a rarity this spring, a beautiful day for golf. The girls of host Springside Chestnut Hill Academy and visiting Hill School took advantage of the conditions as they played the front nine at Sunnybrook Golf Club last Monday afternoon.
While SCH junior Kara Kniezewski recorded the best score of the day, a three-over-par 39, a 244-256 overall victory was claimed by a deep team from Hill, whose roster includes athletes from China and Spain.
They say it’s not how you start but how you finish that matters, and that proved true for Kniezewski. The Norwood Fontbonne Academy graduate began her round with a double-bogie and a bogie, but then she refocused and shot par on the last seven holes to put up the only round in the 30’s between the two teams.
Kniezewski’s SCH partner in the first foursome, fellow 11th-grader Abby Duncan, came in with a 47. The visiting Lady Rams emerged with a modest lead from this first group, receiving solid scores from junior Marina Mendez (41) and sophomore Jessica Shao (42).

Springside Chestnut Hill freshman Emma Schotsch carded a 47 and junior Allison Gerhard had a 57, and Hill picked up a 49 from senior Coco Zhou and a 54 from sophomore Helen Zhuang.
The four scores each school had received up to that point all ended up being included in the official team tally, which is made up of the top five rounds for each side.
SCH’s total was finalized with a 66 from Isabella Decesare who, as a seventh-grader, was at least two years younger than everyone else out on the course. A round of 54 by sophomore Kennedy Becker completed Hill’s total.
Also playing for Springside Chestnut Hill were senior Grace Laigaie, sophomore Riley Farbstein and freshman Anne Harrower.
