On October 1, The Chestnut Hill Film Group premieres the 40th season of “Tuesday Nights at the Movies” at Woodmere Art Museum.
The first feature will be the 1926 silent film, “It's the Old Army Game,” directed by A. Edward Sutherland. The outrageous farce stars W.C. Fields and Louise Brooks as Elmer Pettywillie and Mildred Marshall.
Pettywillie owns a small drug store in Florida where Marshall works as his clerk. Business is slow until a man named George Delevan leases space in the store to sell real estate. After a sheriff visits Delevan and causes him to skip town, Pettywillie is suspicious that he has been an unknowing accomplice in some type of crime. Although business is going well, Pettywillie fears punishment and flees town, heading in an unknown direction far away from his drug store, only to wind up right where he started.
The film – which is presented by The Secret Cinema – will be projected on an Archival 16mm print and will include a live musical accompaniment by Don Kinnier. There will also be a few surprise short subjects prior to the feature.
The event begins at 7 p.m. with the doors opening at 6:30. Admission is free, although donations are recommended.
