A 15-year-old boy was hit by a SEPTA train and seriously injured on Wednesday afternoon. The teenager was rushed to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, said Kristin Geiger, a spokeswoman for SEPTA.
According to Geiger, the boy was standing by the tracks waiting for the Northbound train at approximately 1:15 p.m. when he stepped into the path of the oncoming train. She said the train operator sounded the horn and applied the emergency brakes but was unable to stop the train in time.
Geiger said the incident is still under investigation and it is unclear whether it was an accident or intentional.
SEPTA didn't have an update on his condition as of Thursday at 11:30 a.m.
Service on the Chestnut Hill East Line was interrupted for about an hour, according to Geiger. No other information is available at this time.
