Meals on Wheels to host tailgate party

If the Phillies' opening game put you in the mood for a tailgate party, Chestnut Hill Meals on Wheels (CHMOW) has one you should not miss. On Thursday, April 25, CHMOW will host its 3rd Annual Tailgate Party, an informal evening for adults to enjoy at the Flourtown Country Club.

The event’s theme, “Fighting Hunger is a Team Sport,” reflects CHMOW’s mission and community-based approach. There will be something for everyone, including new cars to inspect, DJ entertainment, delicious food and drink, tailgate games, a photo booth and a silent auction.

Attendees will have an opportunity to bid on a ski package to Sun Valley, Idaho, a trip to Boston with tickets to a Phillies/Red Sox game, a year of date nights with restaurant gift cards, a kids’ summer camp package and much more. Join your neighbors and friends from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. for the ultimate tailgate, having fun while helping area residents who are homebound.

Glanzmann Subaru in Jenkintown is the presenting sponsor of this year’s event.

“We are thrilled to have Glanzmann support this event for the second year,” said Doug MacBride. CHMOW board member and Glanzmann client. “This gives us a great opportunity to showcase their ‘wheels’ in connection with our ‘meals’ – and fits perfectly with our tailgate theme.”

Other event sponsors include Rubicon Wealth Management, John Kennedy Dealerships, Valley Green Bank, Indigo Schuy, Hipster Home and Cresheim Dental.

Founded in 1975, Chestnut Hill Meals on Wheels is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization devoted to meeting the daily nutritional needs of area neighbors challenged by illness, disability or age. Last year's CHMOW tailgate fundraiser raised $24,000, enough to deliver 3,429 meals.

“This year we need you more than ever” said Lynne Mason, CHMOW’s executive director. “We struggle to maintain the lifeline of food and human companionship to area homebound residents who rely on our services.”

In 2012, successful fundraising efforts enabled CHMOW to deliver nearly 20,000 meals to individuals living in Chestnut Hill, Wyndmoor, Mt. Airy, Flourtown, Erdenheim, Oreland and parts of Germantown.

So get ready to party and support the CHMOW team’s fight against hunger on Thursday, April 25 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Flourtown Country Club. Visit www.chestnuthillmow.com to purchase tickets to the tailgate party (only $50 a person through April 13, $60 at the door), sign up for a rousing Bag-O tournament at the event and/or make a monetary donation to help CHMOW beat hunger.
