Mary Anna “Ronnie” Snowden, 85, formerly of Chestnut Hill and Mt. Airy, a retired radio and TV producer and communications consultant, died Jan 19 at Cathedral Village, where she had been a resident since 2002.
After graduating from Springside School, Ms. Snowden worked in radio and television at WCAU where she was producer-director of the top-rated program "The Talk of Philadelphia" with Ed Harvey.
She was a research associate for the TV News Department, producing a number of special film documentaries, and as executive secretary to the TV program director she produced the well-known Bulletin Forum series, moderated by Walter Cronkite.
During this time, she also worked as public relations director for the Careers in Nursing Committee, a pilot program in nurse recruitment.
After retiring from WCAU, she worked as a communications consultant, offering consulting services in fund raising, membership campaigns and coordination of special events for the Morris Arboretum, Fairmount Park Art Association, Chestnut Hill Hospital, Christ Church Hospital, Kearsley Home, and Family Service of Philadelphia.
She was secretary for The Assemblies, and a docent for the Woodmere Art Museum.
A member of the Church of St. Martin-in-the-Fields, she was a delegate to the Wissahickon Deanery.
She was a member of the English Speaking Union, the Junior League of Philadelphia and the Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia.
She is survived by a brother-in-law, Samuel Gilbert of Philadelphia; nieces Sandra Evans, Joan Bolton and Susie Todd; 10 grand nieces and nephews, all of Denver, and her companion, Christine M. Jones. A sister, Frances Snowden “Chubby” Gilbert preceded her in death.
A memorial service, to be announced later, will be held at the Church of St. Martin-in-the-Fields, 8000 St. Martin’s Lane, Philadelphia, PA 19118.
