When Nancy Mayor and her husband Joel bought the Manor and Knoll boutique gift shop on Germantown at 8433 Germantown Ave. five years ago, they wanted to give it a fresh start. They renamed the store, Cobblestones and infused the store’s inventory with upscale lines from around the region.
“It’s been amazing,” Mayor said standing in the middle of store looking out onto the Avenue. “We had a ball.”
Mayor was reflecting on their time as business owners in Chestnut Hill, which will come to an end on March 31. The Mayors are closing the store and retiring.
“It’s truly time to retire, to travel,” she said.
Joel is “beyond retirement age” and, as Mayor put it, she “isn’t far behind.”
They were on their way to retirement and warmer weather when their daughter and son-in-law started a family.
Although the Mayors live in Lower Gwynned, they have felt like a part of Chestnut Hill.
“We feel very fortunate,” she said of the reaction to the store’s closing. “We’ve been blown away by the kind comments.”
In preparation for closing, everything in the store has been discounted 25 percent.
“We are sorry to leave, but we are looking forward to having time for ourselves,” she said.
According to Mayor, building owners Bowman Properties, has another tenant lined up.
