The Wells Fargo bank, located at 8527 Germantown Avenue in Chestnut Hill, is scheduled to close on Feb. 22 according to both a sign on the door and a statement from the bank.
“Wells Fargo made the difficult decision to close our Chestnut Hill branch at 8527 Germantown Ave.” a statement, which was emailed to the Local, said. “We apologize for any inconvenience this might cause.”
Wells Fargo’s Market Square branch, located approximately a mile away on Crittenden Street, will remain open.
The bank, which owns the building, wouldn’t cite a specific reason why the branch was closing, but generally said that its branch network is continuously evaluated “in light of changing customer needs, the increase in the use of digital banking, market factors and economic trends.”
It’s unclear what lies ahead for the building.
“No decisions have been made at this time” regarding the building’s future, said Wells Fargo spokesperson Elise Corbett. “Our team is actively exploring options.”
