The Episcopal Church of St. Martin-in-the-Fields, Chestnut Hill, is alive with both the sound of music and the feeling of pride. The parish will also host a “Pride Evensong” Sunday, June 9, at 5 p.m., conducted by director of music and arts, Tyrone Whiting.
Among the major, traditional Protestant Churches, the Episcopal Church (USA) and the worldwide Anglican Communion, of which it is a part, have been at the forefront of welcoming the LGBTQ+ community into full participation in its mission and hierarchy. In our region, St. Martin’s Church was the first to offer a “Pride Evensong,” an expression of the traditional evening service of the Anglican liturgy specifically focused on the contributions of LGBTQ+ Christians.
This year’s “Pride Evensong” will feature music composed by composers such as Calvin Hampton and Sarah MacDonald. For more information visit www.stmartinec.org.

The Chestnut Hill Community Association (CHCA) and Chestnut Hill Business District (CHBD) are also joining forces to host the Second Annual Pride Party on Saturday, June 22. The event, which will take place at NoName Gallery, promises to be a stylish and unforgettable evening of love, acceptance, and pure joy. Attendees can expect delicious small bites, a variety of drinks, including a signature cocktail called "They/them-onade," and music by Philadelphia's own DJ Xtina.
Andorra Library
The Andorra Library at 705 E. Cathedral Rd is hosting a series of Pride-themed activities throughout June. Participants can help decorate the library's window with handmade Pride suncatchers on June 7, create Pride bracelets on June 14, and attend a drag queen storytime on June 20. The library will also host a Pride Perler bead rainbows workshop on June 21. All events are open to school-age children and adults and no registration is required.
