SCH has most of its volleyball veterans returning

Only three players on the 2022 Springside Chestnut Hill Academy volleyball roster were seniors, so this fall there are a number of returning veterans for seventh-year head coach Dave Noll. In addition, the number of athletes playing the sport outside of school with club teams has been increasing.

Senior middle hitter Zahkiyyah Frazier, also a mainstay of the SCH basketball squad, is a team captain for the 2023 season. The other captains are junior right-side Ava Lanzetta, and sophomore libero and defensive specialist Sarah Scally.

Noll noted that this year he will have the versatile Lanzetta performing as a setter, as well.

The only other senior player aside from Frazier is setter/defensive specialist Elliot Harmaty. Senior Courtney Williams, a former player, is the team manager this year.

Back from last fall's varsity are juniors Rhea Davidson (outside hitter/defensive specialist) and Macy Moderski (libero), and their classmate Bethany Haughton (middle hitter) is moving up to become a full-time varsity player. Sophomores Kathryn McMullen (setter) and Madigan Wallach (right side/outside hitter) both earned varsity status last season as freshmen. Another 10th-grader, outside hitter/defensive specialist Amalya Freund is now joining the varsity along with her freshman sister Kalyn, who is a setter.

Two eighth-graders with club experience have also been brought up to the varsity, Madelyn Moynihan and Chloe Roberts. Both play outside or right- side hitters.

Noll has a new assistant coach in Brian Karakaedos, who coaches the IHM CYO volleyball club in Andorra.

In the Inter-Ac League, the SCH team should face its toughest challenges from defending league champ Germantown Academy and Pa. Independent Schools champion Academy of Notre Dame.
