At the beginning of last Tuesday's Inter-Ac League hoops contest at the Academy of Notre Dame, visiting Springside Chestnut Hill enjoyed a 2-0 lead. After that, the host Irish scored the next 10 points and then led the rest of the way, recording a 42-18 victory.

Improving to 9-3 in league play, Notre Dame would tie Germantown Academy for second place for the second year in a row.

As Tuesday's game at Notre Dame began, junior center Zahkiyyah Frazier converted off an offensive rebound to get SCH on the board first. Unfortunately for the visitors, they would not record another field goal for more than 11 minutes.

Senior Katie Halligan started the Irish off with a jumper from the left baseline, and her junior sister, Lizzie, would score nine points in the remainder of the first quarter for a 15-3 tally at the end of the period. The Blue Devils had Frazier hit a free throw in the first quarter and then got one from freshman Zoe Thompson early in the second stanza. Thompson scored SCH's second field goal of the game on a drive with three-and-a-half minutes left in the first half.

It was 30-11 at the intermission, and then the scoring pace slowed considerably. The home team out-pointed the Blue Devils 12-7 in the second half, with both teams sending in their reserves in the fourth quarter.

Frazier and Thompson led Springside Chestnut Hill with six points apiece, while seniors Tatyana Hall and Faith Scally each added three. Lizzie and Katie Halligan had 12 and 10 points, respectively, for the victors, with senior Annie Greek adding nine.

UPDATE: On Friday, February 10, Springside Chestnut Hill clinched sixth place in the Inter-Ac (2-10) by completing a season sweep over Baldwin School with a 52-22 home court victory. The Blue Devils broke the game wide open in the second half after leading 19-12 at the break.

Senior Fallon George, who will play lacrosse at the University of Maryland, scored a game-high 13 points on six-for-seven shooting from the floor. Another senior, U. Illinois Chicago soccer recruit Julia Thomson, posted six points, four assists, and seven steals.

On the same afternoon, Germantown Academy finished league play with a 63-36 win on the road at Episcopal Academy, officially securing a tie for second place with Notre Dame. With 17 points, junior Jessica Aponick led a list of four GA players scoring in double figures.
