Time is running out to register for Morris Arboretum’s annual Scarecrow Design Contest, the Halloween season competition when entrants tap into the scariest recesses of their imaginations.
The registration deadline is Friday, Sept. 27. Winners could take home cash prizes of $300, $200 and $100.
This year, the contest’s 17th, organizers are asking competitors to design a scarecrow with a favorite villain in mind. It could be a deliciously malicious movie villain or a misunderstood underdog. There’s room for comic book and cartoon references, sports nemeses and even wrongfully maligned historical figures.
Scarecrows will be on display throughout the arboretum from Oct.1 – Oct. 31. Visitors will vote for their favorite scarecrow on-site October 1 – 17 to determine the winner. For info and to register, visit morrisarboretum.org/arbooretum.
