Marilyn Steeg, former resident of Chestnut Hill and volunteer in the area, died on February 1st. She was 86 years old.
Marilyn and her husband, Jim Steeg moved to Chestnut Hill in 1981 where they lived for 16 years until moving to Blue Bell. In 1982 she joined the staff of Beaver College’s Center for Education Abroad as a program director; continuing to work in the field as a freelancer until she retired in the ’90s.
During her retirement years, Marilyn enjoyed volunteering at the Morris Arboretum where she was one of the first volunteers at the popular Garden Railway. She loved greeting visitors at the Arboretum, going for long walks and site trips with Morris Arboretum colleagues, and sharing the beautiful gardens and the railway with her family when they came to visit. In addition to the Morris Arboretum, Marilyn was an active volunteer at The Highlands Mansion and Gardens in Fort Washington where she served on the craft show committee; and at the Woodmere Art Museum in Chestnut Hill where she enjoyed greeting people at art opening receptions; along with taking art classes.
Marilyn loved to travel and was able to go abroad many times - mostly to Italy. Marilyn is survived by her daughters Amy Lundeen of Great Falls, Va. and Pam Steeg of Huntington, Vt., as well as five grandchildren. Her husband Jim Steeg, died in 1997
