Love story of shoe repairman

Posted

I just read the article about Willie Alston (“After 50 years, shoe repair man still has heart and sole,” Sept. 24), my shoemaker, and I was so excited that I called Willie. I told him about the article, and I told him I would bring him a few copies of the Local tomorrow. I love this story. Back in May or June, I went to have some of my shoes repaired, and I could see that he was hurting. He wanted a deposit, and I gave him as much as he wanted and asked if he needed more. He said business was down.

I wanted to help and thought of going on Nextdoor to put the word out. I do not do Facebook. Sadly, I failed at Nextdoor probably because technically I did not know how to do it or did not have the password. Then I read in your article that somebody better able than myself put it on Facebook and brought in a whole lot of business for him. I am so thrilled. This is just what we need. Black Lives Matter a whole lot, and this is one way of helping. Thank you so much for this human-interest story. It is the best!
