Hats off (or rather, bike helmets off) to John Meigs for his recent letter promoting bicycling by means of his gentle corrective to a May 26 article on the Mt. Airy Learning Tree’s recent Hidden Garden Tour.

To maximize time spent enjoying the gardens, the article recommended motoring between them. Mr. Meigs regretted that the article omitted pedaling as a reasonable and even preferable alternative.

We at the Mt. Airy Learning Tree agree completely with the cycling enthusiast and acknowledge our lapse when we asked the Local to only mention the need for travel by car. We’re pleased to report that quite a few of the more than 400 garden guests who helped make the Hidden Gardens Tour our most successful fundraiser ever did indeed make their visits by bike.

We’ll surely feature that option in our 2023 promotion. Our heartfelt thanks to the Local for helping to publicize the tour and to John Meigs for his wise advocacy.
