Dundas scores 100th goal in SCH win over Perkiomen

Posted

Last Tuesday, the lacrosse lads at Springside Chestnut Hill Academy played in front of their home fans for the last time before spring break, treating the crowd to a convincing victory and achieving a 4-0 record.

Tuesday's tilt with visiting Perkiomen School gave Blue Devils players all the way down the bench the opportunity to see meaningful time on the field, and that was because the outcome of the contest wasn't in doubt for long.

The Blue Devils bolted to a 9-2 lead in the first quarter and went on to win, 21-11, with a number of the Perkiomen goals coming when the SCH reserves were playing. Junior Alec Tulio proved unstoppable, with nine goals and 3 assists for the victors. Among the six goals scored by senior Brendan Dundas was the 100th of his career. He'll be going on to play for Monmouth University.

Springside Chestnut Hill marked down single goals for senior Neil Hutchinson (Ursinus College), juniors Finn Dougherty, Steve Pileggi and Alex Pilling, sophomore Seamus Hendrie, and freshman Cole Carberry. Dougherty and Pileggi have made verbal commitments to Fairfield University and St. Joseph's, respectively.

Junior goalie Hayes Schreiner, who has verballed to Penn State, made eight saves in the first half and then turned the cage over to eighth-grader Moe Sobel, who made 10 stops.

A junior who has pledged to Georgetown University, Ross Prince, has been the Devils' face-off specialist for several seasons. He won 17 of the 20 face-offs he engaged in last Tuesday.

Before playing at SCH, Perkiomen had already taken a short trip to Virginia, going 1-1 in two games there.

Tulio opened the scoring for the Blue Devils 27 seconds into the match, firing from outside on the right. Striking from the opposite side, Hutchinson made it 2-0 40 seconds later, receiving an assist from Pileggi.

About a minute-and-a-half after that, the Panthers got on the board with a bounce shot by J.L. Duley. In the next minute, Tulio scored twice in six seconds, and the hosts rolled on toward a seven-goal advantage by the end of the first quarter.

The first half, which ended with the score at 17-4, was an accurate reflection of the two teams at full strength. Perkiomen was able to make up some ground later in the game as the Blue Devils increasingly drew upon their reserves.

After spring break and their Florida trip, the Devils will get down to business in the Inter-Ac League when they travel to Penn Charter on April 11.
