Crime Report: Thefts from cars, ATM

The following crime report is for crimes reported in Chestnut Hill and Mt. Airy for the two-week period between July 5 to July 12. Some dates earlier than the current period took place at that date and reported after the fact.

Chestnut Hill

July 5 Theft. A woman was outside dining at 8400 Germantown Avenue when a man at the next table reached into her bag and took her purse, containing $150 and credit cards. He was seen walking away but not caught.

July 5 Theft and stolen car. Burglar alarm at 422 W. Chestnut Hill Avenue alerted the owner. The rear door was forced open, the front door was open, and his 2014 gray Subaru Forrester was stolen. There is security footage and a witness.

July 7 Theft. A woman at a store at 8208 Germantown Avenue discovered her wallet was gone. Two rings valued at $60,000 and $60 were in the wallet. Her credit cards were used for $6,000 in purchases.

July 10 Theft from car. A woman was parked at Forbidden Drive, discovered her front passenger window broken. Her purse, valued at $199, drivers license, cards, and $20 were missing.

July 10 Theft from car. While parked at Cherokee and W. Willow Grove, rear passenger window was broken. Purse stolen with $400. Thief attempted, unsuccessfully, to use her debit card.

Mt. Airy

June 24 Theft at ATM, Germantown Avenue and Allens Lane. A blind man was coerced by his accompanying health care worker into taking out $400 instead of the $200 he thought he was retrieving, and then kept the extra $200.

July 7 Bike theft. Burgundy Trek bicycle valued at $100 stolen outside a store at 7112 Germantown Avenue.

July 7 Theft from car. A woman was parked at 1000 Kitchens Lane when her front passenger window was broken. Her purse was taken, containing credit cards and  $40.

July 7 Theft from car. When parked at 544 W. Hortter St., driver-side window was broken.  Two pairs of Nikes were stolen, valued at $345.

July 7 Theft from car. Catalytic converter stolen from at 426 E. Durham St.

July 8 Aggravated assault. A women at 601 W. Cliveden was in an argument with her boyfriend when he pulled a gun and threatened her. He punched her, but she declined medical treatment.

July 9 Robbery. Juveniles shoplifted chips and candy from a store at 7236 Germantown Avenue.

July 9 Robbery. A woman’s card was stolen by an acquaintance, who used it to withdraw $502.

July 10 Assault. A woman was punched and choked by an acquaintance at 6336 Ambrose St.

July 12 Theft from car. A woman parked at 6598 Park Line Drive reported her car was unlocked without damaging it. $100, cards, and medications were stolen.
