Crime Report: Shooting at 6400 block of Emlen Street

The following crime report is for crimes reported in Chestnut Hill and Mt. Airy for the period between May 18 to May 23. Some dates earlier than the current period took place at that date and reported after the fact.

Police responded to a call at 10:03 p.m. of gunfire on the 6400 block of Emlen St. When they arrived they found a man in the road with three gunshot wounds – two to his left leg and one to the stomach. He was transported to Einstein medical center and was listed in stable condition.

Chestnut Hill

May 17 Aggravated Assault at Market Square, 7700 block of Crittenden St. Police were called to a business that said a man was causing a disturbance. When police arrived the man brandished a pocketknife and approached them. The man was struck with a Taser gun by the officers and taken into custody.

May 17 Theft from vehicle and vandalism on the 7800 block of St. Martin’s Lane. A woman reported to police that she parked her car at the location and returned to find the rear driver side window broken and her purse containing ID, various credit and debit cards was taken. Her cards were used at a Staples, a CVS and a Rite Aid to make more than $1,800 un purchases.

May 18  Retail theft at Wine and Spirts store, 8705 Germantown Ave. A man took two bottles of liquor from the store worth $93.

May 21 Theft at Market Square, 7700 block of Crittenden St. Owner of a store said someone with a key entered the business, opened safe and removed $300. The person locked the store up when they left.

May 23 Theft reported on 8400 block of Germantown Ave. A woman told police that someone stole her credit cards from her bag while she was sitting and eating. Her bag had been hanging off the back of her chair.

Mt. Airy

May 17 Theft at 200 block of Durard Rd. A complainant said a pair of people delivering Amazon packages to a neighbor’s house stopped to take the complainant’s cat. The complainant contacted Amazon, the police and has video surveillance footage of the theft.

May 20 Retail theft at CVS, 7065 Lincoln Drive. Store employees reported the theft of $300 in diapers, wipes and other baby products.

May 21 Retail theft at Acme, Sedgwick and Germantown Ave. Store employees reported theft of four bottles of liquor worth $300.

May 23 Retail theft at Acme, Sedgwick and Germantown Ave. Store employees told police they saw two women take numerous bottles of alcohol and flee without paying for them. Bottles valued at approximately $100.
