The following crime report is for crimes reported in Chestnut Hill and Mt. Airy for the two-week period between September 13 and 20, 2021. Some dates earlier than the current period took place at that date and reported after the fact.

Chestnut Hill

Sept 16 Theft from Auto. A man returned to his car parked in the 20 block of E. Springfield Ave. to find the passenger window broken. Tools were stolen, including a sander, dust extractor, and jump starter. Estimated total value $3,797.

Sept 16 Theft. A bike was removed from the backyard of a residence in the 8400 block of Anderson St.

Sept 17 Theft. A shoplifter walked around a pharmacy in the 7700 block of Germantown Ave. grabbing multiple items, including $47 of laundry detergent pods.

Mt. Airy

Sept 8 Theft. The complainant states that he was evicted from his residence in the 100 block of Pleasant St., then his belongings were sold or given away before he could retrieve them. Items included multiple laptops, game systems, phones, a video camera, and a piano. Estimated total value $19,072.00.

Sept 13 Theft from Auto. While parked along Valley Green Road near Wolcott Drive, a car was broken into. A wallet containing cards and $300 cash was taken. Video of the incident was turned over to the police.

Sept 13 Theft from Auto. A car parked on the 400 block of Pleasant Street was opened. Tools and other items were taken. Estimated total value $2,100.

Sept 14 Theft. In the 7200 block of Germantown Ave., a shoplifter reached behind the counter at a store and stole a box of cigars.

Sept 15 Burglary. A woman in the 400 block of Walnut Lane her pistol and magazine were removed from a plastic box under her bed. Building maintenance workers and two family members had been in the residence.

Sept 15 Theft. A package was stolen from a porch in the 100 block of E. Washington Lane.

Sept 15 Aggravated Assault. An argument about locking the back door of a bar in the 7100 block of Germantown Ave. escalated into a fight and threats with a kitchen knife, resulting in the complainant receiving facial injuries but no cuts.  

Sept 17 Auto Theft. A car stolen from the 6500 block of Wissahickon Ave.

Sept 17 Attempted Entry. An unknown man attempted to enter a residence in the 300 block of Vernon Rd via a basement window. He failed. Video was obtained.

Sept 17 Arson. A shed behind a residence in the 300 block of Montana St. was set on fire, damaging the shed and the car inside.

Sept 17 Theft from Auto. In the 200 block of E. Phil-Ellena St., a woman left her car unlocked and returned to find $60 cash missing.

Sept 18 Theft. Two bikes were removed from the front porch of a house on W. Mount Airy near Germantown Ave. Estimated total value $1,200.

Sept 18 Theft from Auto. A man returned to his vehicle parked on the 1000 block of Kitchens Lane to discover both driver-side windows broken and a backpack, drum items missing. Estimated total value $1,550.

Sept 18 Burglary.  A resident returned to his group home in the 100 block of E. Mount Airy Ave to find the back door kicked in and a room ransacked. Nothing was taken.

Sept 19 Theft from Auto. A woman returned to her car parked at W. Hortter St. and Park Line Dr. to discover her rear window broken and her purse gone. Her credit card was later used at a supermarket and a gas station for a total $228.01.

Sept 19 Assault. A man was sitting on a bench outside a public library in the 6900 block of Germantown Ave. when four young men threw gravel, a small helium tank, and a chair at him. He was not injured.
