Crime Report: Police involved in shooting, woman beaten, raped in Mt. Airy

The following crime report is for crimes reported in Chestnut Hill and Mt. Airy for the two-week period between June 14 to June 20 Some dates earlier than the current period took place at that date and reported after the fact.

There were two extraordinary reports in this week’s list of police calls. One involved police shooting two armed men and another was of a physical assault and rape of a Mt. Airy woman

On June 14, three police officers responded to a report of a person with a gun on the 300 block of Glen Echo Rd. The report turned out to be related to an ongoing domestic disturbance in which no weapon was used. However, while one of the three officers was speaking to a resident in front of the home, he heard what he believed to be two gunshots. All three officers came out to the porch and the civilians were told to go inside and take cover. The officers observed two armed men approaching. Both men were shot by police and transported to a hospital where they were reported to be in stable condition. The officers and civilians were unharmed.

On June 15, a woman told police that her ex-partner, who is also father to her children, entered her home on the 6900 block of Cresheim Road, and repeatedly struck her and prevented her from leaving the home. She said the man beat her to the point that she lost consciousness. When she regained consciousness, he forced her to go her bedroom where he raped and continued to assault her. She managed to escape and sought treatment at Chestnut Hill Hospital. In addition to the attack, the woman said her assailant stole $200 in cash and various credit cards.

Chestnut Hill

Jun 13 Theft from vehicle on the 8100 block of Lincoln Drive. A person parked their car at the location while on vacation and returned to find the front driver-side window smashed. Taken was loose change.

June 13 Attempted theft / vandalism to vehicle on the 8800 block of Germantown Ave. A complainant reported that someone tried to remove their catalytic converter. IT was damaged but not taken. Security camera footage is available of the incident, but it is poor.

Jun 15 Theft from vehicle on the 100 block of W. Northwestern Ave. A woman parked her car at the location and returned to find her front passenger-side window broken. Taken was a Michael Kors purse containing $28 in cash and a $20 CVS gift card.

June 15 Theft on the 7800 block of Germantown Ave. A woman was captured on restaurant surveillance video reaching into the purse of another diner and taking her wallet. The offender was wearing a blue mask over her face, making identification difficult. Taken were $250 in cash and multiple bank and credit cards.

June 15 Theft on the 200 block of Willow Grove Ave. A man said a woman staying at his residence took a PS4 and $600 in cash.

June 15 Retail theft at 7700 Germantown Ave. A woman was observed taking the following items from a store without paying for them: $125 in beauty products, $165 in costume jewelry and $10 worth of shampoo.

June 16 Theft from vehicle on W. Bells Mill Rd. at Orange Trail. A man told police he parked and went for a run. When he returned, he found his rear passenger-side window broken and his wallet taken from his glove box. The wallet contained $100 in cash.

June 16 Theft from vehicle at Valley Green. A woman reported that her car was broken into and two pocketbooks were removed. The pocketbooks contained a pair of AirPods and various bank and credit cards.

June 16 Theft from vehicle at Valley Green. A woman reported her car broken into. The thief took a Michael Kors pocketbook containing a gold chain worth $800.

Jun 18 Theft on the 7900 block of Lincoln Drive. A woman told police a package delivered to her home was stolen.

June 19  Theft from vehicle on the 7700 block of Germantown Ave. A woman parked her car at the location at 1:30 p.m. When she returned less than two hours later, she found her front passenger-side window broken and her car ransacked. A backpack left in the car was taken. It contained a driver’s license and various bank and credit cards.

Mt. Airy

June 13 Theft from vehicle on the 6500 block of Parkline Dr. A woman parked her vehicle at the location and returned to find her rear passenger-side window broken. A bag was removed that contained various bank and credit cards. One of the cards was used to make $789 in purchases at CVS.

June 15 Theft from vehicle on the 6800 block of Wissahickon Ave. A person parked at the location to visit the park and returned to find windows on both sides of his car smashed. Stolen were an iPad, MP3 player and more, valued at $1,500.

June 15 Theft from vehicle on the 6800 block of Wissahickon Ave A person left their car at the location and returned to find a wallet containing $250 taken. Car was left unlocked.

June 16 Theft from vehicle on the 6500 block of Parkline Dr. A woman parked her car and returned to find her front passenger-side window broken and the following items taken: A hammock, one pair of sneakers and sunglasses.

June 18 Retail theft. A store employee said a man asked him for a bag. The man then put approximately $50 worth of drinks, beef jerky and candy and fled without paying.

June 19 Theft on the 6500 block of Parkline Dr. A woman told police she parked at the location with her sister. When they returned, her rear passenger-side window was broken and three purses containing $1,000 worth of valuables were taken.
